Avatar: Fire and Ash Crosses 1 Billion
The Avatar trilogy has already grossed over 6 billion worldwide. Let's dive in...
It finally happened. Avatar: Fire and Ash joined the magical 1-billion milestone. The movie has grossed 306 million domestically and 771 million overseas, for a worldwide total of 1.08 billion. This is the third movie in the Avatar franchise to reach that milestone, and it now makes James Cameron the first director to deliver four consecutive billion dollar-grossing movies. Oh, the Avatar trilogy has grossed over 6 billion, which makes it the highest grossing trilogy of all time.
This is the second highest grossing Hollywood movie of 2025 (behind Zootopia 2). The movie had another solid drop domestically (-37%), and with no competition, it should add lots of money to its overall box office gross. The biggest question is; how far can it climb? Honestly, at this point, it seems to me that the movie should finish around 1.5 billion to 2 billion, although most chances it will be on the lower side.
I wonder how Disney and Cameron will react. Will 1.6 billion be enough to continue this franchise? Yes, it will be a drop from the previous movie, but we’re still talking about a franchise where each movie can gross at least 1 billion, you simply can’t ignore it. I think it’s too soon to tell whether it’s really the ending of the Avatar franchise. We need to see how much the movie will gross in the upcoming months.
I still think Disney should continue the franchise, but maybe try to spend less money. They should make Avatar 4 & 5 back-to-back (like Cameron did with Avatar 2 & 3) to save money. If both of them together will cost around 500 million to produce, and together they will gross between 2.5 billion to 3 billion – that should be a nice investment! Regardless, we still know nothing about what’s coming. We will have a better idea in the near future.
